My new blog- I view it as a way of talking to myself. When you live alone, as I do, you miss the daily conversations you had in another life. It's fun to write down how you feel (in private?) and get it all out. Of course it's not private any more as we know how Emails you thought you had deleted live on forever. This I know-- when planning a murder, stay off the internet. But I don't have that in mind. Just some reflexions on life and a lessening of the blood pressure, that's all.
Now that's out of the way, why the title of this Blog? For those of you who didn't grow up in a school where Latin was considered the main "foreign language", Carpe Diem or "Seize the Day" is a philosophy from the Latin poet Horace that is still used today. It means that if an attractive opportunity presents itself to you, you should seize it, and put the least possible trust in tomorrow. It is an optom stic philosophy, a cheerful outlook on the future and conceivably an American trait. For Horace it was a success life plan since he died peacefully in his bed on his Sabine farm.after wending his way among the great and powerful , with admiration for his poetry. He had one or embarrassment, which was eventually was overlooked- he fled the battle of Phillipi without his shield, leaving that on the field. Appantly that was a way Romans could give up when they had had enough, a sensible policy. Horace had a good life, given those violent and precarious times -Seize the Day. See you tomorrow.
